New Delhi: Nicole Kidman is set to star in her next over-the-top project, Expats, which she will also executively produce. The bestselling book The Expatriates by Janice Y.K. Lee is the inspiration for the six-episode series Expats. Expats, helmed by Lulu Wang, will make its debut on Amazon Prime Video on January 26, 2024.

Plot

The drama takes place in 2014 Hong Kong and is structured on the city’s politics and social fabric. It centres on three ladies whose once joyful relationship becomes terrible due to a tragic event. Embark on an enthralling adventure through the lives of Margaret, Hilary, and Mercy as we follow their tale in Expats.

The social mechanics of the employer-help relationship are among the topics addressed in the episode, along with the blurry boundary between victimisation and responsibility, misuse, and privilege.

When and Where to Watch?

The first season of Expats, which will include six episodes, will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on January 26, 2024. It is set to release two episodes at the premiere and the remaining four every week.

Cast and Their Characters

The primary characters in the Lulu Wang directorial are Ji Young Yoo (Mercy), Nicole Kidman (Margaret), and Sarayu Blue (Hilary).

Margaret finds it too much to bear to be a trophy expat wife, even if she has a full-time helper, a loving husband, and two lovely children. She thinks she’s an admirable human being.

Not to be confused with her marriage issues, Hilary, her closest friend, may have an alcohol problem. Hilary has no clue why she is in Hong Kong; her husband is emotionally distant, a divorce is possible, and she just moved here to be with his expat spouse.

Mercy, on the other hand, is a 24-year-old who is scraping by on odd jobs in the hopes of surviving her one shot at a better life. On a market excursion, however, the throng separates Mercy, Margaret, and her kid, ruining their blossoming bond.

The plot is about navigating through the fog of grief and coming out the other side, ideally with others.
