The actor who once started from playing sloppy characters and back to back flop movies has evolved into a credible actor with several stellar performances in the second half of his career.

Omkara 

The film starts with a glimpse of a baraat having a tea-break while on a journey to reach the wedding venue, when a dacoit ‘Langda Tyagi’, who also pretends to be groom’s friend, takes out his rifle, shot in the air saying, “ye baraat aage nhi jaayegi” (this baraat won’t go any further). Saif delivered a powerful performance as a handicapped gangster, his aspirations to become successor to Omkara, and his evil tactics when not met with his goals.

Aarakshan

Saif, who has mostly played urban and glamourous roles in his films, transformed himself into a dramatically mature-simplistic dalit youth, who later involves into a battle of social justice.

Tanhaji

Ajay devgan, Kajol, Saif Ali Khan starrer Tanhaji: The unsung warrior was screened at 78th Golden Globe Awards as the Best Foreign Film. Though Ajay Devgan played the lead role of Maratha warrior, Saif played the character of Udaybhan Singh, sufferings of his unrequited love, and becoming Aurangzeb’s royal guard seeking revenge earned him Best Supporting Actor Award in Filmfare.

Kaalakandi

Kaalakandi is a dark comedy released in 2018. Saif’s character has just few days left of his life. He tries to fully utilize his remaining days by taking drugs. The movie is entirely based on his hallucinations after taking LSD.
