From Sharmaji Namkeen to Aranyak: Movies that talk about age being just a number went without a buzz; WATCH TRAILERS

In recent times, directors not thinking about their budget but are focusing more on ‘not so popular’ content that would be loved by people of all ages.

New Delhi: Sometimes, we feel blessed that we were offered several OTT platforms that cater to us with multiple ‘hatke’ contents. Directors find a way through OTT platforms to bring forth their creative side ranging in a whole lot of genres. In recent times, directors not thinking about their budget but are focusing more on ‘not so popular’ content that would be loved by people of all ages.

One of the sides of the content that seemed to be less explored is dealing with old age. We often find it hard to make old people believe that age is just a number. However, some movies have genuinely proved it time and again. Let’s take a look at some of those movies streaming on OTT platforms:

1. Sharmaji Namkeen – Amazon Prime

The last film of Rishi Kapoor stole the heart of every audience. Not just Rishi Kapoor, but the performance of Paresh Rawal, who took forward the character of Rishi Kapoor in the film after his sudden demise. The movie revolves around a retired manager named Brij Gopal Sharma who discovers his love for cooking. The movie is an inspiration to all the retired people out there, that anything new can be started over at any age.

2. Badhaai Ho – Disney+Hotstar

Neena Gupta and Gajraj Rao were the centre of attraction in Badhaai Ho. The film follows how a middle-aged woman named Priyamvada (Neena Gupta) becomes pregnant by accident. The movie begins with an episode of humiliation and shame. Priyamvada and her husband Jeetender Kaushik (Gajraj Rao) thought that the world would turn upside down, but the ending brings tears of happiness to our eyes. The movie also stars Ayushman Khurrana, Sanya Malhotra, Surekha Sikri, and others in pivotal roles.

3. Yours Truly – Zee5

Sanjoy Nag’s directorial Yours Truly brings fresh air for Soni Razdan. Mithi Kumar (Soni Razdan) being a 57-year-old government employee from Kolkata, is on the verge of retirement. Being a lonely person, she looks forward to the voice of the announcer. Devoid of companionship, the voice carries a sense of comfort, support, and care. The character of Mithi, couldn’t have been played better than Soni.

4. Aranyak – Netflix

The movie brings back Raveena Tandon who almost disappeared from the industry much faster than her counterparts. She made a comeback in the role of a cop, Kasturi Dogra. The movie narrates how Kasturi Dogra along with other police officers joins hands to unveil a puzzling murder. The movie also stars Parambrata Chattopadhyay, Ashutosh Rana, and Indraneil Sengupta amongst others.
