Owing to the Covid-19 restrictions the release of movies in the theatres was suspended throughout the last two years. However, OTT platforms did not disappoint us at all. Not only did the OTTs provide us with some fresh new talents but initiated a comeback game of some of the popular actors from the 90s.

Apart from the engaging storylines of the shows, the Bollywood queens of the 90s served us with unconventional roles that never failed to grab our attention. Here are the successful actresses with a remarkable comeback on the OTT platforms:

Sushmita Sen

Sushmita Sen made her OTT debut with the crime thriller Aarya. Sushmita played the role of Aarya, blurring the lines between a hero and an anti-hero. An absolutely different side of Sen was witnessed which hasn’t been portrayed in decades.

Raveena Tandon

The Mohra actress portrayed the role of a cop Kasturi Dogra who is on a mission to revive a forgotten myth about a serial killer operating in the dense forest. Raveena Tandon was mostly seen in rom-com or drama, however, playing the character of a cop impressed her fans.

Pooja Bhatt


The actress made a comeback on Bombay Begums, standing out as a complex character who caught up in the responsibilities towards her family and as the CEO of a bank. The series was women-centric that introduced several female characters who were flawed and relatable.

Kajol

Kajol featured in Tribhanga, playing the role of an unconventional mother trying hard to be better than before. Although the movie did not do well, the role played by Kajol garnered appraisal. 

Karisma Kapoor

The actress made her OTT debut with Mentalhood, where she essayed the role of an imperfect mother. Throughout, she showed all shades of motherhood, only to realise there’s no perfect way to be a parent.

Lara Dutt

She was seen sharing the screen with Naseeruddin Shah in the recent release Kaun Banegi Shikharwati. In the comedy series, she portrayed the role of a ‘royal contest’ to ascend the throne.

Madhuri Dixit

She will be making her OTT debut with Finding Anamika that will premiere in 2022. The story will revolve around a global superstar who suddenly disappears. The story is followed by an investigation that will unveil several truths and lies about the life of the star.

Juhi Chawla

After the years-long break, the actress is set to make a comeback with the OTT release Hush Hush, inspired by the Hollywood hit Big Little Lies. The actress will play the role of a strong female protagonist.
