Gadar 2’s record earnings on the second weekend; will it beat SRK’s Pathaan?

Gadar 2 has become the fifth highest-grossing Hindi film of all time in India. After Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, Gadar 2 has become the largest post-pandemic smash in the Hindi film industry.

New Delhi: According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Gadar 2 added Rs 41 crore to its Indian box office gross on Sunday, August 20th, after its record-breaking second Saturday take of Rs 31.07 crore. The film starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, which has been smashing records at the box office, has now made a whopping Rs 377.20 crore.

The film has maintained its impressive box office success over the last several weeks, with Sunday showing a respectable 72.60 per cent total occupancy rate. The film is challenging Pathaan, which, on day 10, had earned 378.15 crores thanks to the star power of Shah Rukh Khan, as reported by Sacnilk.

Early estimates suggest that the film, which was released on August 11th, made 41 crores on Sunday. The film made 284.63 crore in its first week. Both Friday (20.5 crores) and Saturday (31.07 crores) of the film’s second weekend were successful. It has made 377.20 crores at the box office so far.

The members of Gadar 2 recently convened a press conference to discuss the movie’s enormous success. According to a report by the ANI news service, Sunny revealed his immediate reaction upon learning about the public’s adoration for Gadar 2, he said, “I was quite stressed before the release of the movie. When the movie was released, I cried and laughed the entire night. My father was around and he saw me. I told him, ‘I have not had alcohol. Main khush aa main ki kara (I am happy, what can I do)’.”

Set in 1971, in Lahore, ‘Gadar 2’ follows Tara Singh as he crosses into Pakistan in an effort to save his kidnapped son.
