
New Delhi: Google today dedicated its Doodle to legendary singer Bhupen Hazarika on his 96th birth anniversary.
Doodle today celebrated the birth anniversary of the singer who died in 2011. Bhupen Hazarika was an acclaimed Assamese-Indian singer, composer and film-maker whose work featured in hundreds of films in his career spanning six decades.
Bhupen Hazarika was born in 1926 in north-eastern India, he was also one of the state’s leading socio-cultural reformers.
The doodle was illustrated by Mumbai-based artist Rutuja Mali, which pays a tribute to Bhupen Hazarika’s work which popularised Assamese cinema and folk music.
In the blog, Google said that as a kid, the 85-year-old grew up surrounded by songs and folk tales about life along the Brahmaputra river.

He has also served as an MLA in the Assam assembly during 1967-72.
Bhupen Hazarika, after completing his in America, he returned to India to pursue a career in cinema. Bhupwn won several prestigious awards such as Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards and many more.
He had also served as the chairman and director of numerous boards and associations, including the Indian government’s National Film Development Corporation.
It was in 2019, Bhupen Hazarika was honoured with the country’s highest civilian award-the Bharat Ratna.
