New Delhi: After the recently concluded Oscars, the 64th Annual Grammy Awards also ignored to pay tribute to legendary Indian playback singer Lata Mangeshkar in its ‘In Memorium’ segment.
The prestigious international awards were held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday. The event however paid its heartfelt tributes to late Broadway composer Stephen Sondheim as well as Taylor Hawkins and Tom Parker.
This has led to utmost disappointment for Indian fans as many called out the Oscars and Grammys 2022 Awards on social media for leaving out the ‘Nightingale of India’, who passed away on January 6 at the age of 92.
The angry fans took to Twitter to criticize the Academy while teaching the institution to ‘learn how to appreciate and respect people’.
Check out some furious reactions below:
I think at this point,People applause just amazed that the people they know made the #memoriam #Disgraceful #LataMangeshkar was not included at the #GRAMMYs #GrammyAwards @GWR has her seeing over 50,000 songs in her 80 yrs career #shameful pic.twitter.com/a2WRYE9qMy

Both the Oscars and Grammy awards claim to promote diversity but surprisingly none of them bothered to showcase Lata Mangeshkar in their section to remember artists who are no longer with us.#GRAMMYs #Oscars #LataMangeshkar

A little unrelated, but when they were paying tributes to artists who passed away this year and there was no mention of Lata Mangeshkar- India’s most loved singer, it all felt so futile and insignificant. These shows have no regard for ‘global’ music- only American. https://t.co/P0duW3SDPM

Grammy failed to honour lata mangeshkar.. such a shame on you @RecordingAcad
I still remember when a cricket commentator said Sachin tendulkar didn’t has his name on Lord’s honour board then Harsha Bhogle replied WHO’S LOSS IS IT SACHIN OR THE LORD’S HONOUR BOARD..!

Genuinely surprised that no tribute was paid to Lata Mangeshkar at the Grammys. She was an artist in the absolute purest form and has been so influential in South Asian music … and her career spanned 7+ decades

Global? I was waiting to see a tribute to Lata Mangeshkar. No Bapi Lahiri either. They are legends. But Indians. It doesn’t effect their glory but it still hurts.
