‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ BO Collection: MCU film faces competition with ‘The Kerala Story’ on day 1

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the Hollywood film earned Rs 7.30 crore on its opening day in India while as per Variety, the film collected $17.5 million on day 1.

New Delhi: Written and directed by James Gunn, the MCU film ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ had a decent start at the Indian box office. The overseas collection for the film was not as huge as expected, but the film is set to garner more audiences on the weekend. In India, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ faced a neck-to-neck competition with the much-controversial film ‘The Kerala Story’.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the Hollywood film earned Rs 7.30 crore on its opening day in India while as per Variety, the film collected $17.5 million on day 1. In addition to the earning in the US market, the film minted $35 million overseas.

On the other hand, Sudipto Sen’s ‘The Kerala Story’, bringing up a plot of religious conversions in the state, earned Rs 7.50 crore on day 1.

While MCU films ‘Avengers Endgame’ and ‘Spiderman: Far From Home’ have had big opening day numbers, Marvel’s last release ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ collected Rs 9 crore on day 1. As compared to them, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ has had a not very up-to-the-mark start.

The movie is an addition to the trilogy following ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ (2014) and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ (2017). The plot follows Peter Quill aka Starlord reeling from the loss of Gamora, while the Guardians embark on a mission that could mean the end if they fail.

The film stars Chris Pratt as Peter Quill, Pom Klementief as Mantis, Dave Bautista as Drax, Karen Gillan as Nebula, and Chukwudi Ewuiji as The High Evolutionary while Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel gave the voices of Rocket Raccoon and Groot respectively. While the trilogy enjoys a following for its humour and music, Vol. 3 has earned mixed reactions from audiences and critics.
