New Delhi: While RRR’s international success is being celebrated by many as a proud moment for Indian cinema, some critics have begun to take a dig at the makers for the over-the-top overseas promotional campaign.

Tammareddy Bharadwaj, senior Telugu director, and producer, has recently ignited some controversies after he alleged that RRR makers have blown as much as Rs. 80 crores to promote the film in the western market.

His comments came just a few days ahead of the 95th Oscars. For the unversed, RRR has begged a nomination at the Academy Awards in the Best Original Song category for its song Naatu Naatu.

Naatu Naatu has earlier made some huge headlines by winning at Golden Globes and the Critics Choice awards. For the Oscars, Naatu Naatu has not only been nominated but will also be performed during the ceremony on 12th March by the singers Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava.

Tammareddy Bharadwaj slammed the makers of RRR for the apparent 80 crores spent on promotion in addition to the movie’s mammoth budget of 600 crores. He said instead of spending 80 crores they could have 8 more movies. Taking a jab at RRR, he said we should make movies that we like, rather than trying to please someone else.

His comments have attracted a fair amount of criticism from fans of RRR who have called him out for trying to ruin the big moment ahead of the Oscars.

However, many also came forward in support of his comments as they shared similar sentiments about RRR’s international success.

Calling Naatu Naatu an average song, a user tweeted:

SS  Rajamouli or any other film team member has not commented on the claims made by Tammareddy Bharadwaj yet.
