New Delhi: Netflix India released the first look at Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming web series ‘Heeramandi’. Bhansali, who gave a superhit film in ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ last year, is making his OTT debut with ‘Heeramandi’. The first look proves that it is another one of Bhansali’s grand and beautiful worlds, which looks royal yet holds it to its roots.
The teaser begins with Manisha Koirala dressed in a golden attire with heavy necklaces, a beautiful nose ring and a maang-teeka. The clip goes on to flash the looks of Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chaddha, Sharmin Segal, and Sanjeeda Shaikh in a similar get-up while Sonakshi Sinha ends it with a ‘salaam’. The last shot shows all six pretty ladies in the frame as the show’s name flashes.

As per the clip, the show will revolve around courtesans who were once queens. It is another period drama, a genre mastered and owned by Bhansali. Netflix called the show a ‘magical world created by Sanjay Leela Bhansali’. He has shown his grandeur in world-building in films like ‘Devdas’, ‘Bajirao Mastani’, ‘Padmavat’ and others and it would be interesting to see how he takes the episodic journey this time.
As per reports, it might be Bhansali’s magnum opus. The sets for the upcoming web show have been completed in the Filmcity in Mumbai, at the same place where the sets for Alia Bhatt starrer ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ were made.
The release date for the project has not been announced and there has been no news of the series going on the floor yet.
