New Delhi: This is the end of the wait. Today, May 1, 2024, is the day when Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s first web series, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, will be made available to the public. The historical drama series Heeramandi is highly anticipated by the Hindi audience.

Bhansali is making his official debut on the over-the-top platform with the larger-than-life online series, which features various Bolly star women. Audiences are going to be blown away by the story since it is a perfect representation of Bhansali’s aura and accomplishments.


Set against the chaotic background of the Indian independence struggle of the 1940s, the story unfolds inside the colourful fabric of Heera Mandi, Lahore’s notorious red-light district. The courtesan residing in the red-light district is the protagonist of the series.

The series highlights the plight of women in a patriarchal culture, focusing on the tawaif people and their experiences during the independence movement when they were at their most vulnerable and banded together to defend their homeland.

While colonial control and social unrest provide a dramatic background, the story dives deeply into the lives of the tawaifs who live in this fascinating and intricate environment, illuminating their hopes, dreams, and relationships.

Cast and Crew

An ensemble cast including Manisha Koirala (Mallikajaan), Sharmin Segal (Alamzeb), Sonakshi Sinha (Fareedan), Aditi Rao Hydari (Bibbojaan), Sanjeeda Sheikh (Waheeda), and Richa Chadha (Lajjo) can be seen in the leading roles in the drama.
