New Delhi: The new action comedic movie Hit Man has a dark vibe. After receiving mostly excellent reviews at the 80th Venice International Film Festival on September 5 and the Toronto International Film Festival on September 11, 2023, the movie, directed by Richard Linklater, had a limited theatrical run.
Shortly after gaining international acclaim for Top Gun: Maverick and his romantic comedy Anyone But You, Glen Powell is making a triumphant return with even more action sequences. Hit Man, an action-comedy inspired by actual events, will premiere on Netflix on June 7, 2024.
Plot
According to the official description, Hit Man is about Gary Johnson, a philosophy professor who works as a police hitman in his spare time. When his emotions get the best of him, he violates rules to help a lady escape her aggressive husband, and the story deepens from there.
The film delves into the consequences that ensue when an otherwise morally upright person starts working undercover for the police as a phoney contract assassin for minor jobs, ultimately crossing over from virtue to grey morality.
Set against the delicate background of deeper ideas, this film explores mistaken identity, a subtextual fight between the sexes, and an impossible rom-com. Questions of self-definition, moral grey areas, romantic betrayal, and love are all touched upon in Hit Man.
When and Where to Watch?
On June 7, 2024, Hit Man will be made available exclusively on Netflix, after its brief theatrical run earlier in the year.
