‘India is everything to me…’: Akshay Kumar opens up about his Canadian citizenship

Akshay said that India is everything to him and that whatever he has earned is from here. He added that he is fortunate that he gets a chance to give back to the country.

New Delhi: Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar opened up about his Canadian citizenship and passport. Talking to AajTak, Akshay told the story behind his Canadian citizenship and the people trolling him for the same. He stated that he feels bad about people saying things without knowing the reason behind it.

Akshay said that India is everything to him and that whatever he has earned is from here. He added that he is fortunate that he gets a chance to give back to the country.

He talked about his phase in Bollywood in the 90s when he decided to shift to Canada. When he had 15 flop films, he stated that he realised that his films are not working and one has to work. The 55-year-old actor said that his friend who lived in Canada asked him to shift there, he applied and got in.

Akshay further said that two of his films were in the pipeline at that time and those worked, his friend asked him to stay in India and continue working in Bollywood. He added that he forgot that he had a Canadian passport. He said that he never thought to get his passport changed but now he has applied to get it changed and to get the renounced status from Canada.

Last year, Akshay Kumar he said that he applied for a change in his passport in 2019 and the COVID-19 pandemic caused a delay. He told that his renouncement letter is here and the whole passport will also arrive soon.

The actor will next be seen in ‘Selfiee’, alongside Emraan Hashmi, Nushrratt Bharuccha and Diana Penty. The film will hit cinemas on February 24.
