Jailer actor G Marimuthu passes away due to cardiac arrest

New Delhi: Tamil actor and director G Marimuthu sadly passed away at the age of 58 on Friday, September 8. The actor, who recently appeared in Rajinikanth’s film “Jailer,” collapsed during the dubbing session for his television show, titled “Ethirneechal,” and died at 8.30 am.

The actor was immediately taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead. Marimuthu gained popularity on YouTube and received great reviews for his roles in “Jailer” and “Red Sandal Wood”. His unexpected passing has deeply saddened the Tamil film industry.

Sun Pictures, the production company behind “Jailer”, expressed their condolences for the actor-director on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. They shared a photo of Marimuthu and wrote: “Condolences! Your work has been impeccable and irreplaceable. Rest in peace #Marimuthu”

Jailer’s box office success

Rajinikanth’s action film “Jailer” has been a huge success, earning more than ₹640 crore worldwide. According to film trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan’s recent tweet, in just 26 days since its release, “Jailer” has grossed ₹640.18 crore globally, including ₹2.39 crore on its fourth Monday in theaters. The movie released across the globe on august 10.

Earlier, “Jailer” became the third Tamil film to join the ₹500 crore club, prior to this  “2.0” (2018) and “Ponniyin Selvan: I” (2022) crossed 500 crores. Now, it is on track to achieve another milestone. After a successful 18-day run in theaters, it surpassed the ₹600 crore mark in worldwide earnings. Additionally, it became the second-fastest Tamil film to reach ₹600 crore after “2.0” starring Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar, which released in 2018.

Even in its fourth week, “Jailer” has continued to perform exceptionally well, collecting an estimated ₹338.3 crore nett in India across all languages, as reported by Sacnilk.com. The film has been dubbed in various languages including Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.
