Jailer BO, Day 1: Rajinikanth’s flick shatters records, earns Rs 52 crore in India alone

Reports state that the first day of the Rajinikanth film had 90 per cent occupancy and a global revenue of over Rs 72 crores.

New Delhi: Jailer, starring Rajinikanth, opened in theatres on Thursday and quickly became the highest-grossing Tamil film of the year. According to business tracker Sacnilk, the film made Rs 52 on its first day of release in India. The movie made an estimated net sum of Rs 44.5 crore. The box office for Jailer was so successful that it became the year’s highest-grossing Tamil debut.

Throughout the course of the day, Jailer’s occupancy rate was at 78.62 per cent. Tamil Nadu shared 23 crores to the film’s total gross collection of 52 crores, while Karnataka made 11 crores, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana made 10 crores, Kerala contributed 5 crore and the rest of India brought 3 crores to the total. According to the latest reports, the movie smashes a number of records at the box office.
