Jude Anthany Joseph helmed Malayalam film ‘2018′ to officially enter the Oscars 2024

New Delhi: ‘2018’ is a Malayalam survival thriller movie, and it has been announced that it will be India’s official submission to the Oscars in 2024. Today’s announcement came from the jury, which was led by the Kannada film director Girish Kasaravalli.

The film directed by Jude Anthany Joseph is victorious over every other entry in the running to represent India at the Oscar Awards in the following year. For those who aren’t familiar, the movie was inspired by the devastating floods that occurred in Kerala in 2018.

About the Film

The 2018 floods in Kerala provide the background for 2018: Everyone Is a Hero, which tells the tales of people who overcame incredible odds. Tovino Thomas, the protagonist, is a young man who, in the film, deserts the Indian Army using a false medical discharge and is later redeemed by his actions during the floods. Along with Tovino Thomas, Kunchacko Boban, and Asif Ali all play significant parts in the film.

Kavya Film Company and PK Prime Productions, headed by Venu Kunnappilly and C.K. Padma Kumar, co-financed the film. The performances in 2018 were lauded by both reviewers and spectators, and the film ended up being a huge financial success.

Oscar Awards

According to the report, the 96th Oscar Awards will be broadcast live on ABC in more than 200 nations on March 10, 2024, from the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles.

Previously, in reports, it has been mentioned that – Balagam, The Kerala Story, Zwigato, and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani are potential nominees for India’s official Oscar entry in 2024.

India made headlines in 2023 by taking home two Oscars. The Indian film RRR’s original song, Naatu Naatu, won an Oscar for Best Original Song. The Oscars ceremony also included a performance of the song. Only two films from India have ever won an Oscar; The Elephant Whisperers was the second. The Elephant Whisperers, directed by Guneet Monga, won the award for best documentary feature.
