Review

Men motivated by avarice, ambition, and coercion engage in defensive and heinous activities in the thriller Lootere, directed for the first time by Jai Mehta. The eight-part series takes place in an African country where the whole population is at sea, literally and figuratively speaking. The action-packed drama Lootere takes a dark turn as the stakes become higher.

All of this takes happening in a dangerous, nation that is on the verge of a civil war. In the broader, more untamed universe that the series is set in, the personal and the emotional are interwoven throughout the plot by Anshuman Sinha and the screenplay by Vishal Kapoor and Suparn S. Varma.

Using a cast that includes both Indian and African performers, the filmmaker creates a powerful picture. Lootere breaks new ground by becoming the first Indian web series shot in Africa. Its unique texture and colour are effects of its setting.

In addition, the show has an outstanding ensemble cast whose performances take the narrative to the next level by giving the characters real depth and complexity and by making the tale more emotionally engaging. Rajat Kapoor gives a superb performance as the captain who refuses to back down from a challenge. Strong deliveries are made by Preetika Chawla and other actors.

The energetic title song and propelling background soundtrack by Achint Thakkar enhance the heart-pounding beat of Lootere.

The series has problems with pace, but it has great plot and character development. Some parts could seem a little dragged out. Nevertheless, the show gets back on track with some clever story twists and short episodes of tension.

Lootere is an excellent action series with captivating plot points and excellent production standards that has a lot of dramatic traction. A sense of dread and anticipation washed over the spectators.
