Mai OTT Release Date: Start streaming this Vietnamese romance drama flick – have an emotional rollercoaster ride

New Delhi: This year, the record for the highest-grossing film – the superhero blockbuster Avengers: Endgame – in Vietnam was surpassed by director Trấn Thành, thanks to his latest romance drama Mai. With almost $22 million, Trấn’s romantic directorial, Mai, nearly doubled Endgame’s box office takes.

The movie, which had a domestic release in February 2024 and a North American and European release in March of the same year, will be available via over-the-top services – Netflix – beginning May 17 for anybody to see.

Plot

The plot centres on Mai, a young and gorgeous masseur who is a single mother. She develops feelings for her younger playboy neighbour, Duong, who was born into wealth but spends his days sleeping with beautiful women.

With a pure heart and an enigmatic background, Mai is on the run from something mystic. She cheerfully takes care of her daughter Binh Minh and her father, Mr Hoang, who is a gambling addict—all while enduring the relentless harassment and abuse from her neighbours. Duong runs into Mai at their building and ends up being her customer in the massage parlour.

The longing for a fresh start that Mai felt when Duong hesitantly hit on her came when she felt her enthusiasm for love and seeking happiness had waned. As she grudgingly meets the ladies’ man in the neighbourhood, Mai is welcomed by a fresh dawn, despite the restless hauntings of the past.

Featuring elements of operatic drama, passionate romance, and humour, Mai seems to appeal to a wide range of audiences.

On February 10, 2024, the romantic drama film premiered in its native Vietnam. On March 22, 2024, it was distributed in North America and Europe. Now you can watch the movie on Netflix as of today, May 17, 2024.

Cast and Crew

The film has a star-studded ensemble, with Phuong Anh Dao and Tuan Tran starring as Mai and Trung Duong, respectively. Additional cast members include Tran Thanh, Manh Lan, Ngoc Giau, Quoc Khanh, Hong Dao, and Huynh Uyen An.

The film was produced by Tran Thanh Town and CJ HK Entertainment and directed by Tran Thanh. 3388 Films handled the distribution in North America and Europe.
