New Delhi: Movie theatres now have Maidaan, the big-budget biographical sports movie starring Ajay Devgn. While the film’s sneak peek was available on April 10, 2024, its official release is slated for April 11, 2024.
Boney Kapoor and Zee Studios are supporting this biographical sports drama film written and directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma. The audience’s enthusiasm is palpable.
Plot
The biography of Syed Abdul Rahim, who coached the Indian national football team to unprecedented success from 1952 to 1962—the Golden Period of Indian Football—is the inspiration for the film Maidaan. As a result of Rahim’s revolutionary strategies and ground-breaking tactics, the Indian national football team was labelled the Brazil of Asia.
The squad achieved unparalleled success and widespread praise when he implemented a dynamic 4-2-4 setup. The lasting influence of Rahim’s leadership and vision as an innovator in Indian football is evident in the fact that he has inspired generations of fans.

The early part of the film is interesting; it jumps about quickly from 1952 to 1960 and mostly follows the coach as he tries to lead the squad to glory. A powerful interval sets the stage for a languid yet powerful second half of the film.

The filmmaker must be commended for skillfully depicting the most glorious period in Indian football history without wandering over it. AR Rahman then ups the mood by composing a fitting music and soundtrack that harmonizes with the film.
Despite its flaws, the plot is compelling and emotionally engrossing.
