New Delhi: Tara Deshpande used Twitter to post a photo of herself positioned with an early prototype of a refrigerator accessible in India. She started an online dialogue by asking viewers to identify the brand of the refrigerator in the image and to share their own recollections of having their first refrigerator. “I’m sure you’ll recognize this lovely lady, but can you tell me what brand of refrigerator she has?” Do you remember when you received your first refrigerator? Several Twitter users replied to the tweet, quickly identifying the actress in the photos. It has had over 110.5K views since being shared, and the numbers are only growing. Furthermore, many people attempted to identify the brand of the refrigerator in the image, with a sizable number speculating that it was “Allwyn” or “Kelvinator.” Both of these refrigerator brands were popular in Indian houses throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
Looks like Surfridge. My mat granny had it. Lasted for 50 years. Was still working when my uncle discarded. My Ma’s wedding fridge was a Godrej one that didn’t last, like the marriage, & she got a Kelvinator.

My current one is a Godrej. The previous one was LG & lasted 22 yrs. This Godrej is problematic as there’s no tray at the bottom to collect the melted water. So I hav to scoop out with a soup spoon from the receptacle at the back. V inconvenient.

Ours first too was the same one. Fedders Lloyd was the name of the company. Zenith was the brand name of the refrigerator.

Feddders Lloyd. My aunt gave it us for free when they went for an upgrade. It was in half white colour and had a water dispenser in front. My Friends were thrilled to bits. My house became the preferred cricket venue purely because of the water dispenser ???
