Meet Sriya Lenka, an 18-year-old Odisha singer who has become India’s first K-Pop sensation

Sriya Lenka and another competitor, Gabriela Dalcin, were picked as the group’s fifth and sixth members from among 4,000 applications in a YouTube audition procedure.

Sriya Lenka, the winner of DR Music’s global tryouts, has been announced as one of the six members of the Korean girl band Blackswan. After the band’s oldest member, Hyeme, quit in November 2020, they began seeking for a new member to replace her. Following that, the band’s talent agency announced global tryouts for May 2021.

Sriya Lenka claimed in an interview with Talk Talk Korea that she has been dancing since kindergarten but began professional training at the tender age of 12.  To become a versatile dancer, the rising star has studied classical dancing as well as freestyle, hip-hop, and modern dance. According to sources, the two new band members will spend the next few months in Seoul practising for their next record.

Both girls went through a five-month intensive training programme that comprised standard vocal, rap, and dance instruction, as well as personal training, language, and musical instrument training.
