New Delhi: The much-anticipated topic for the Costume Institute’s gala and exhibition to be held in 2024 has finally been revealed by the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The event, which is going to be known as “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” is going to be the highlight of the calendar for the fashion industry, and it is going to provide a stunning combination of nature, art, and history.

Anna Wintour, Global Editorial Director of Vogue and Chief Content Officer of Condé Nast announced during a press conference that was also attended by Andrew Bolton, Curator in Charge of the Anna Wintour Costume Center at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Max Hollein, CEO and Director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The Met Gala, which is often referred to as the Costume Institute Benefit, is an event that takes place every year on the first Monday of May. The date of the gala for the year 2024 has been set for May 6.

Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty was the subject of last year’s Met Gala, which honoured the late fashion icon. For 2024, however, the theme Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion will take us on an enchanted adventure.

The land, sea, and sky will all play a role in the Sleeping Beauties premise. It’s meant to represent the fleeting and ever-evolving world of fashion, while also prompting contemplation of rebirth and regeneration via its dynamic nature.

In addition to the spectacular array of 250 items from the Costume Institute’s permanent collection, the Met Gala will include 50 rare and fragile historical artefacts that are too delicate to wear.

According to Max Hollein, the director and CEO of The Met’s Marina Kellen French department, this groundbreaking exhibition will push the limits of human imagination while providing a richer appreciation of the works on display.

This show spans four centuries of clothing, from an Elizabethan bodice from the 17th century to contemporary pieces by Phillip Lim, Stella McCartney, and Connor Ives. According to Pinkvilla, it will also have works by such legendary fashion designers as Elsa Schiaparelli, Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, Hubert de Givenchy, and many more.
