New Delhi: Naseeruddin Shah is disturbed by the massive popularity of films such as The Kashmir Files, The Kerala Story, and Gadar 2 and said that the filmmakers of these movies are doing something very harmful. In an interview with Free Press Journal Naseer insisted that filmmakers such as Sudhir Mishra and Hansal Mehta must continue with the kind of work they do, even if people are not watching their movies right now.
When asked about how the objective of filmmaking has changed over the years, Naseeruddin said, The more jingoist you are the more popular you become because this is what has been ruling this country. Now the show-off culture is more, it’s not enough to love your country but have to beat the drums about it and create imaginary enemies. What they don’t realize is whatever they are doing is very harmful. Films like Kerala Story and Gadar 2 are not seen by him but he thinks films like these are quite disturbing. Films that actually tell the Truth are less popular in comparison to them but such filmmakers should not stop from making good films.
He added hundreds of years later, people will see Gadar 2 and Bheed as well an can see which one portrays the truth because films are only the medium to reflect the society’s truth. It is very sad to see that filmmakers are making films that praise all the wrong things and run down other communities for no reason. It is very dangerous.
Naseeruddin Shah will be next seen in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Charlie Chopra along with his wife Ratna Pathak Shah and sons Vivaan Shah and Imaad Shah, will also be seen alongside Naseeruddin in the Sony LIV original series.
