On this, the 127th anniversary of Netaji’s birth, let us remember our national hero by thinking back on the films that have paid homage to him.

1. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose: The Unforgotten Hero (2004)

The film covers Subhas Chandra’s final five years and contains flashbacks from his life. Following a political conflict with Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji’s detention and release in British India prepared the stage for his flight to Germany. The film covers Subhas Chandra Bose’s existence in Nazi Germany 1941–1943 and Japanese-occupied Asia 1943–1945, and the events leading to Azad Hind Fauj.

2. Ami Shubhash Bolchi (2011)

The film explores the present political climate, the struggles of the average citizen, and how Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose if he were alive today, might have responded to these issues. The film is a reflection on the ideals and life of the revolutionary liberation warrior Subhash Chandra Bose.

3. Subhash Chandra Bose: The Mystery (2016)

The groundbreaking blend of never-before-seen pictures, archival video, and interviews from all around the globe, – Subhash Chandra Bose: The Mystery aims to reveal the truth behind freedom hero Netaji’s death.

4. Raag Desh (2017)

The film is a period piece about Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s Indian National Army and the Irrawaddy River fight to free India. INA troops were labelled renegades and Japanese stooges by the British, who staged the 1945 Red Fort trials in Delhi. Raag Desh recreates the dramatic trial that led to India’s independence and soaring times.

5. Gumnaami (2019)

The Mukherjee Commission Hearings, which took place between 1999 and 2005 and included the three competing hypotheses on the death of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, are the inspiration for the film Gumnaami. Anuj Dhar and Chandrachur Ghose’s book Conundrum and the proceedings of the Mukherjee Commission served as inspiration for the film.

6. The Forgotten Army – Azaadi Ke Liye (2020)

Based on actual events, the film follows Subhash Chandra Bose’s Japanese-collaborating Indian National Army (INA) soldiers and women. To seek freedom from colonial control, Indian troops collaborated with the Japanese army, which marched into the city shouting ‘Challo Dilli’. Subhash Chandra Bose commanded the INA, which was formed by Indian troops who deserted to Japan during WWII to oppose the Allies.
