Netflix revealed the viewing data for the first time: Check which show becomes the ‘Most-Watched’ this year

From January to June of 2023, the streaming giant’s most-watched programming is detailed in its first-ever engagement report. It looks at both Netflix originals and licenced material.

New Delhi: On Tuesday, Netflix unveiled its first viewing data report, revealing the content that subscribers are enjoying on the platform.

After much denial, Netflix has finally announced its top popular films and television series in a study. The first “What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report” breaks out the total viewing time of the most popular series during the first six months of 2023 for Netflix members. Netflix said on Tuesday that it will publish its ‘What We Watched’ report biannually.

There was distrust among creators due to Netflix’s habit of not disclosing audience numbers, which co-CEO Ted Sarandos admitted on a Tuesday conference call with reporters. According to Sandros, it has been keeping viewing figures under wraps thus far to avoid giving out information to any rivals.

‘Most Watched’ Contents on Netflix

With over 81 crore hours seen, the first season of The Night Agent dominated the first half of 2023. Gabriel Basso is the main character in the American action-thriller series.

Season 2 of Ginny & Georgia follows Season 1 of The Night Agent. It was released worldwide and viewed by Netflix viewers more than 66 crore times.

The Glory, an original Korean Netflix series, came in at number three with 62 crore hours of viewing, while Wednesday, a web series starring Jenna Ortega, took fourth place with 50 crore hours of viewing.

More than 18,000 titles are included in the list, which, according to Netflix, accounts for 99 per cent of all watching. One hundred billion hours of watching time is represented by these films and television series put together.

Netflix and other big streaming providers withheld viewing numbers for years. Hollywood’s creative community originally liked not being beholden to Nielsen viewership numbers on broadcast and cable TV.

Recently, authors and producers have criticized Netflix for withholding viewership statistics to avoid paying more for its most popular shows.

So, the streaming company has started sharing more data. It often gives weekly top 10 lists of English and foreign language movies and TV series and viewership data for a few popular titles.
