Not Others OTT Release: Not Others is a South Korean television series that aired from July 17 to August 22, 2023, on ENA. The show is based on the webtoon “Namnam” by Jung Young-Rong, serialized from 2019 to 2022.

The main cast consists of Jeon Hye-jin, Choi Soo-young, Ahn Jae-Wook, and Park Sung-hoon in lead roles.

Plot

“Not Others,” tells the heartwarming yet chaotic story of Kim Eun-mi and her daughter Kim Jin-hee, who share an unusual dynamic that often feels more like best friends or even sisters rather than the traditional mother-daughter relationship.

Eun-mi became a single mother at 18 and raised Jin-hee on her own. Now, at 40, she is a cheerful and energetic physical therapist who often behaves immaturely despite being a mother. On the other hand, Jin-hee, now 29, works as a police officer. She embodies responsibility, discipline, and a no-nonsense attitude.

Their clashing personalities and reversed roles lead to hilarious misunderstandings, emotional conflicts, and tender moments, making this drama a refreshing and relatable take on family dynamics. Eun-mi is vibrant, outspoken, and a little reckless. These qualities make her beloved by her patients but frustrating to her daughter.

She enjoys her independence and social life but sometimes crosses boundaries with Jin-hee, treating her more like a friend than a daughter. Jin-hee is the complete opposite of her mother.

She is serious, responsible, and determined to maintain order in both her professional and personal life. However, their life is not all it seems to be.

Jin-hee is forced to confront her childhood wounds. She realizes that while she has always resented her mother’s carefree attitude, she has also taken her love and sacrifices for granted.

Eun-mi, despite her cheerful and immature personality, struggles with loneliness and unresolved trauma. The root of it is from raising Jin-hee alone at a young age.

The drama explores the realistic struggles and bonds between single mothers and their children, emphasizing love, misunderstandings, and reconciliation.

It humorously flips traditional parent-child roles, showing what happens when the child becomes more responsible than the parent.
