Samantha said that she went through many dark places and when she had problems on the personal front, she thought it cannot get worse, but life went, “gotcha!” She added that she is still trying to understand the new version of herself. On facing mean comments on social media, the actor said that the lack of empathy is pushing people into depression and anxiety. She added that she cut herself from the mean comments and listen to the voice in her head.

When asked about love and her failed relationship, Samantha acknowledged that not necessarily love between a man and a woman. She said that one failed relationship does not mean that she becomes ‘cynical and bitter’.

Talking about her character, she said that the play was written by Kalidasa in the 5th century but Shakuntala appeals to the contemporary woman in her as she was fiercely independent and goes against societal norms. She added that her character went through adversities but held herself with dignity and grace, and that is what made her connect with Shakuntala.

The film, directed by Gunasekhar, is based on the play ‘Abhigyan Shakuntalam’ and traces the love story between Shakuntala and King Dushyant. The mythological drama also stars Dev Mohan, Aditi Balan, Mohan Babu and Gautami. The film will release in theatres on April 14.
