New Delhi: At the 96th Academy Awards, the documentary film To Kill a Tiger, which is set in India, has been nominated for Best Documentary Feature. The announcement of the nominees was made on January 23, 2024.

The Emmy-nominated Toronto-based director Nisha Pahuja, who was born in Delhi, directed the Canadian production To Kill a Tiger. It was shown for the first time at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival, where it was named Best Canadian Feature Film by Amplify Voices.

The Eternal Memory, Bobi Wine: The People’s President, Four Daughters, and 20 Days in Mariupol are among the other documentaries nominated for Best Documentary Feature.

On March 11, 2024 (Indian time), Jimmy Kimmel will host the 96th Academy Awards.

Story of To Kill a Tiger

An Indian farmer named Ranjit faces the battle of his life to get justice for his 13 years old daughter, who was raped by a gang. His journey is unparalleled, and his resolve to support his daughter is almost unheard of.

According to the official narrative, the guys are taken into custody when Ranjit reports them to the police. However, the villagers and their leaders begin a persistent effort to get the family to drop the allegations. The film documentary To Kill a Tiger chronicles Ranjit’s struggle to get justice for his kid, despite the obstacles he faces.

About the Documentary

In addition to being nominated for an Academy Award, “To Kill a Tiger” took up the top prize at the Palm Springs Film Festival and the Best Canadian Film at the 2022 Toronto Film Festival.

To Kill a Tiger premiered at New York City’s Film Forum in October 2023 and then went on to other major cities. Executive producers Mindy Kaling, Dev Patel, Rupi Kaur, and Atul Gawande are among the big hitters who have helped push To Kill a Tiger toward potential Oscar glory.
