Ponniyin Selvan 2 BO, Day 6: After Rs 200 club entry, movie earnings plummet; garners Rs 8 crore

While the sequel had a good start, its prospect of breaking the records of the part first of the Cholan Period drama remains dim.

New Delhi: Mani Ratnam’s period drama has been dominating the Box Office domestically and internationally. The Chola Empire tale entered the 100 crore club in two days.

Meanwhile, in terms of global earnings, the film has already crossed the 200 crores mark in just 2 days.

However, after the grand opening that secured earnings in double digits for 5 days, the film saw a significant dip in its collection on the 6th day.

On day 6, Ponniyin Selvan 2 managed to collect Rs. 8 crore. The overall earnings of Aishwarya Rai’s film stand at approximately Rs. 121 crores in Indian markets.

At the global box office, Ponniyin Selvan’s sequel has gathered over Rs. 250 crores.

The star-studded film enjoyed the highest theatre occupancy in Tamil regions with 26.67 percent. While in Malayalam and Telugu regions, the occupancy remained at 14.63 percent and 12.59 percent respectively.

The Hindi-speaking regions came last with 7.91 percent of theatre occupancy.

Ponniyan Selvan Part 2 is a sequel to the 2022 release that became the highest-grosser Tamil film internationally. Ponniyan Selvan 1 was an absolute riot at the international box office earning as much as Rs. 500 crores.
