New Delhi: After the success of ‘Ponniyin Selvan 1’, the makers have released a teaser for its sequel and have announced the release date. The much-awaited ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ will release on 28 April 2023. Lyca Productions shared a short teaser and made the announcement about the follow-up for Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus.
The teaser opens with Aditya Karikalan, played by Vikram sitting in front of a Kali statue. There are also glimpses of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, and Karthi in the clip. Nandini is seen sitting in front of a mirror, while Arulmozhi Varman is seen walking amid monks, and Vandhiyathevan is wounded in a forest.

‘PS 1’ starred Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Sobhita Dhulipala in the lead ensemble cast. The film is an adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy’s novel and is a fictional account of the Chola empire. The first part followed Chola Prince Arulmozhi Varman as the protagonist. The movie was received well by the audience and the critics, and Aishwarya Rai, Vikram and Trisha were praised for their acting. The film offered great visuals with extravagant costumes and camera work. The film grossed more than Rs 300 crore in India.
The impressive screenplay of the film is written by Kumaravel and Mani Ratnam, while Jayamohan wrote the original dialogues. The music of the PS franchise is composed by AR Rahman and the cinematography is done by Ravi Varman.
‘PS 2’ will hit cinemas on April 28 next year, in five languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.
