New Delhi: Mani Ratnam’s ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ is set to release in theatres and it will mark the return of Cholas to continue the story of the historical empire. Trisha Krishnan will return as Kundavai, the character which earned her a lot of praise across the country. In a recent interview, Trisha revealed the inspiration behind her portrayal of the Chola princess.
In an interview with Film Companion, Trisha told that director Mani Ratnam asked her to take inspiration from late Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa. Talking about her character, the actor said that Mani Ratnam told her to stop being Trisha and think of Jayalalithaa. She said that she grew up watching her films, and the way she was as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Trisha added that Kundavai did not let her emotions come up.
Trisha also said that she watched her videos, films, and the way she used to speak, and it did help. She also mentioned that Jayalalithaa was ‘always the queen’ and agreed when Karthi said that the former CM was always in command and one could feel it.
‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is an adaptation of Kalki’s famous Tamil novel by the same name, which narrates a fictional account of the Chola empire. ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ follows Arulmozhi Varman, played by Jayam Ravi, on his journey to becoming Rajaraja I. The film also stars ‘Chiyaan’ Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Sobhita Dhulipala and Aishwarya Lekshmi in pivotal roles. The music in the film is composed by AR Rahman.
‘PS-2’, produced under the banners of Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies, will release in cinemas on April 28.
