Ponniyin Selvan 2’s trailer release date announced, makers share new poster with Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

The new poster shows Chiyaan Vikram in a melancholy state while Aishwarya Rai Bachchan sits beside a waterbody lighting a lamp (diya).

New Delhi: Makers announced the release date for Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan 2’s trailer. Sharing a tweet, Lyca Productions announced that they will release the trailer for ‘PS 2’ on March 29. Sharing the trailer’s release date, the makers also posted a new poster of the sequel.

The new poster shows Chiyaan Vikram in a melancholy state while Aishwarya Rai Bachchan sits beside a waterbody lighting a lamp (diya). Both can be seen in their royal getups as in the prequel.

The makers recently released the first song from ‘PS 2’, titled ‘Aga Naga’ in Tamil and ‘Ruaa Ruaa’ in Hindi. The Hindi version of the song is sung by Shilpa Rao and penned by Gulzar. The song features Karthi and Trisha Krishnan as their romantic relationship develops in the film.

The film is based on Kalki’s novel ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ and follows the rise of the Chola empire. The sequel will show Arulmozhi Varman’s journey to becoming Rajaraja I, the greatest-known ruler of his clan. The film has an ensemble star-cast of ‘Chiyaan’ Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan, Jayam Ravi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Prakash Raj and Nassar.

The screenplay for ‘PS 2’ is penned by Mani Ratnam, Jeyamohan and Kumaravel and the DoP is Ravi Varman. The music for the film is composed by AR Rahman. The film will hit the theatres on April 28, under the banners of Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies.

The prequel of the film did well and received a lot of appreciation, both critically and from the masses. The film will release in five languages, namely, Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada and Telugu.
