New Delhi: The science fiction, dark comedy, and drama Poor Things had its world premiere on August 30, 2023, at the Venice International Film Festival. The film, which stars Emma Stone and Mark Ruffalo, was met with acclaim at the festival.

The Greek writer-director Yorgos Lanthimos is at the helm, promising an out-of-the-ordinary experience. The films of Yorgos Lanthimos are often provocative. Poor Things was supposed to be released in theatres on September 8, 2023, but it was pushed back three months because of the WGA Strike and the SAG-AFTRA Strike. The new release date for the film is now December 8, 2023.

Plot

The narrative of Bella Baxter, a young lady who is brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter after she meets a tragic end, is told in Poor Things, which is a reimagining of Frankenstein. Bella struggles to regain her footing in the world while trying to sort out her own identity issues with the help of Dr. Godwin. Still, she can’t shake the idea that she’s stuck and lost, so she embarks on a fantastical journey with a dubious lawyer named Duncan Wedderburn. Bella develops and seeks answers as she traverses the numerous forms and prejudices of the period in the hopes of liberty.
