Plot
This documentary by Academy Award nominee Yance Ford explores the controversial yet captivating history of police authority. Police forces in the United States have grown exponentially over the last few centuries in response to perceived dangers to societal stability. The only word that can demonstrate their domination is power.
This documentary gives viewers a glimpse into the influence of a corrupt past that normalizes abuse against those who identify as non-white. The racial disparities and prejudice linked to colonization, affluence, and whiteness persist today, which is mirrored by the fact that police authority is the immediate power.
Slaves, indigenous peoples, and the working class have felt the effects of power dynamics more acutely than the privileged white majority because they are distinct from white America.
There are a lot of archives and rare footage showing police violence in the trailer, and it’s clear that cops treat individuals differently because of their ethnicity or colour.

On May 17, 2024, the documentary Power will have its world premiere on streaming behemoth Netflix.
On January 18, 2024, it made its international debut at the Sundance Film Festival. The Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival (May 1, 2024) and CPH: DOX (March 18, 2024) were additional venues for its screenings. May 10, 2024, was the date of its limited release.
