New Delhi: After Aamir Khan’s Lal Singh Chaddha, now upcoming family drama Raksha Bandhan has landed in soup over several old tweets and video clips of its lead actor Akshay Kumar and scriptwriter Kanika Dhillon went viral on social media.
Kumar took to his Twitter handle last month and informed, “A film celebrating the most special bond where there genuinely was a lot of bonding. Sharing a few special moments of this very special film, coming to a theatre near you in 1 month. RakshaBandhan releasing on 11th August in cinemas”.

However, it seems like several old derogatory remarks against the Hindu community and its customs and beliefs have irked a section of internet users, who are now calling for a complete boycott of the film.
The backlash erupted as several old tweets or comments made by Kumar and Dhillon surfaced online and drew fierce anguish by Netizens.
#AkshayKumar emerged in the top trends along with #BoycottRakshaBandhan on the microblogging site Twitter. Users argued that both Akshay and Kanika are making money off the Hindu community but do not hesitate to mock the same community’s believes and values after making profits.
