
New Delhi: Actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu visited the Pazhani Murugan temple in Tamil Nadu to seek blessings ahead of Shaakuntalam’s release. She was seen climbing 600 steps barefoot and lighting a camphor at every step as part of the tradition. Pictures and videos of the actor went viral on the internet and she was joined by ‘Jaanu’ director Prem Kumar on her visit.

Samantha was seen wearing a simple salwar kameez with a black mask on her way to the temple. She was accompanied by her staff and the police were present there to manage the crowd.

Samantha Ruth Prabhu will next be seen in ‘Shaakuntalam’, which is a retelling of the love story between King Dushyant and Shakuntala, daughter of sage Vishwamitra and Menaka. The film stars Dev Mohan opposite Samantha in the lead. Directed by Gunasekhar, the film also stars Allu Arha, Aditi Balan, Jisshu Sengupta, Madhoo and Kabir Duhan Singh.
At the trailer release event, Samantha revealed that she was diagnosed with a rare auto-immune disease called Myositis. She said that even after all the struggles, her love for cinemas has not changed and will grow with ‘Shaakuntalam’.
She was last seen in the box office hit ‘Yashoda’ where she played a surrogate mother trying to protect her child. The action-thriller led by Samantha earned Rs 40 crore at the box office. Meanwhile, ‘Shaakuntalam’ will release in the cinemas in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada on April 14.
