New Delhi: Samantha Ruth Prabhu, who captivated the audience with her dances in ‘Oo Antava,’ was the sole choice for ‘Shaakuntalam,’ according to the Shaakuntalam’s director.
When writing the narrative for the historical drama, director Gunasekhar had Samantha in mind. “When I wanted to make the everlasting love story of Shakuntala and Dushyant in a fascinating landscape of a beautiful dreamy forest much like a forest princess in a Disney kind of movie, I wanted a character who was relatable to the younger viewers, and felt Samantha would be appropriate for this movie and contacted her,” Gunasekhar said.

Samantha, according to the filmmaker, matched the part wonderfully and no one could have played it better than her.
“The film follows the emotional journey of a lady who falls in love and the obstacles that fate throws her way. She’s an inner-strong persona that portrays her feelings with respect and grace in all she does. All of these emotions can only be expressed by a brilliant actor like Samantha, and she was our only choice to be able to create this epic,” he continued.
Samantha Prabhu is an icon that India can’t seem to get sufficient of, topping popularity polls throughout the country and inspiring films.
‘Shaakuntalam’ will be released in theatres on April 14th.
