Sayani Gupta’s Bengali Debut

While Gupta’s transition to Bengali cinema wasn’t without its challenges, she overcame them successfully. Despite speaking Bangla, her mother tongue, regularly, she felt nervous initially. It had been many years since she acted in Bangla, and she had only done theatre several years ago. However, she found that the experience was quite similar, which she found interesting. Gupta believes that it is a great exercise for actors to adapt to different languages.

In an interview, Gupta emphasized the importance of adapting to different languages as an actor. She emphasized the need for actors to understand their comfort levels with different languages and adjust accordingly. Gupta enjoys speaking in both English and Hindi and expressed her interest in doing more Bengali films.

Gupta also pointed out some notable differences between the Hindi and regional film industries. She mentioned differences in the running of sets, food, and people’s behavior. Additionally, she highlighted that regional films generally have smaller budgets and that shoots in Calcutta are completed more quickly compared to Mumbai.

One aspect that Gupta hopes will change in the Bengali film industry is the use of sync sound. She wishes for a shift from dubbing to sync sound, as most actors these days prefer the latter. Gupta believes that this change could enhance the overall quality of the films and the performances.

When discussing her future aspirations, Gupta expressed her desire to take on roles that have substance and depth. She would love to be the lead character in a film or series where people follow her journey. Being someone who easily gets bored, Gupta appreciates the opportunity to play diverse roles. She looks forward to doing more comedy, action, and even a dance film. Medium or format is not a concern for her; her main goal is to find good work that allows her creativity to flourish.
