New Delhi: Prince Andrew’s controversial interview with BBC journalist Emily Maitlis on his acquaintance with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein served as the inspiration for the forthcoming historical drama – Scoop.
This comes after the 2019 interview’s aftermath, during which Andrew was the target of criticism. Journalists confront personal challenges and ethical issues while seeking the truth, as shown in the film. Prince Andrew was asked to resign from his royal position as a public official after the interview rekindled interest in the Epstein case.
An interesting teaser trailer for Scoop, Netflix’s next biographical drama, has already been released.
Plot
Scoop is based on the true story of the scandalous interview that Prince Andrew had with Emily Maitlis, the Newsnight host. The story centres on Prince Andrew’s troubled reputation after the interview and his connections to Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender.
The biographical drama also follows Andrew as he deals with the consequences of the 2019 interview, takes heat for it, and eventually loses his royal position. The courageous efforts of news reporters in their pursuit of truth and justice are brought to light in the explosive interview. Scoop is a kind of journalism homage to reporters who go to extraordinary lengths to get a big scoop.
When and Where to Watch?
Netflix adapted the infamous interview into a fictitious film called Scoop. On April 5, 2024, the biographical drama will be available exclusively on Netflix.
Gillian Anderson’s Emily Maitlis boldly approaches the camera in the teaser’s opening scene, setting the stage for what would turn out to be one of the most contentious interviews in British television history.
To get an interview this big, you have to be bold.
