New Delhi: Selfie, starring Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi, is officially in cinemas, and all attention is focused on what it does at the box office. The movie was never expected to be a great hit, and it is entirely dependent on word-of-mouth. It has, however, failed to establish a base for itself on the first day.
The movie, directed by Raj Mehta, is an official Hindi version of the 2019 Malayalam film Driving Licence. The producers adopted a novel technique of opening ticket sales late, which isn’t benefiting this comedy-drama so far. In contrast, even Akshay’s underperformers, such as Raksha Bandhan and Ram Setu, which were released concurrently, outperformed his recent film.
According to trade reports, Selfiee has sold tickets totaling 85-90 lakhs gross on its first day at the Indian box office through advance booking. This is surprising given Akshay Kumar’s star power, and things could have been a lot better if ticket sales had begun a few days sooner.
Selfiee is trailing Akshay Kumar’s Rakshan Bandhan, which collected approximately 2 crores from advance bookings amid a clash with Laal Singh Chaddha. Even Ram Setu, which was released in competition with Thank God, earned 2.40 crores. Everything now comes down to the walk-in audience and the film’s quality. Footfalls will increase during evening and night shows if content hits.
Considering the recent mega-hit of Pathaan at the box office, fans and netizens are eager to know how Selfiee is going to perform.
