Senpai Is an Otokonoko OTT Release: Senpai Is an Otokonoko” is a romantic comedy anime series based on Pom’s web manga. The anime adaptation was announced by Aniplex at AnimeJapan on March 25, 2023.
Produced by Project No.9 and directed by Shinsuke Yanagi, the series aired from July 5 to September 27, 2024, on Fuji TV’s Noitamina programming block. Following the conclusion of the television series, a theatrical anime film titled Senpai wa Otokonoko: Ame Nochi Hare was announced on September 27, 2024.
The film, serving as a continuation of the series, is scheduled for release on February 14, 2025.
Plot
The story begins with Saki Aoi, a bright and earnest first-year high school student. Saki has been captivated by her senior, Makoto Hanaoka, a stunningly beautiful and kind-hearted student often admired by everyone at school. Saki’s infatuation reaches a peak when she decides to confess her feelings to him.
However, Saki quickly learns that Makoto isn’t the conventional girl she thought he was. Makoto is actually a boy who enjoys cross-dressing.
Makoto’s love for dressing in traditionally feminine clothing stems from his passion for fashion. His desire to express himself authentically also plays a key role. Despite this surprising revelation, Saki declares her intent to win Makoto’s heart.
She sees no reason to back down from her feelings.
Makoto is taken aback by Saki’s determination and sincerity. Over time, the two form a unique and heartfelt bond as Saki tries to understand and support Makoto’s identity. She is also navigating her own romantic feelings.
Along the way, they are joined by Riku Hayase, Makoto’s childhood friend, who harbors his unresolved feelings for Makoto. The dynamic between the three characters becomes central to the story.
