New Delhi: Makers released the trailer of Samantha Ruth Prabhu starrer Telugu film ‘Shaakuntalam’. The film is an adaptation of Kalidasa’s Sanskrit play ‘Abhijnana Shakuntalam’ which follows the epic story of Shakuntala and King Dushyant, who are also the characters in Mahabharata. It is one of the most anticipated films of 2023 and finally the fans are getting to see what is in store for them.
The trailer begins with stellar visuals and the birth of Vishwamitra and Menaka’s daughter Shakuntala. The clip then introduces King Dushyant who finds Shakuntala in a forest surrounded by butterflies. The trailer then shows Dushyant forgetting Shakuntala due to saint Durvasa’s curse and this leads to a battle between Gods and demons. The video ends with a glimpse of her son Bharat, from whom India derives its Hindi name.
The film stars Samantha as Shakuntala and Dev Mohan as King Dushyant in the lead with Allu Arha, Sachin Khedekar, Kabir Bedi, Dr M Mohan Babu, Prakash Raj, Gautami, Aditi Balan and others. ‘Shaakuntalam’ is written and directed by Gunasekhar while the dialogues are penned by Sai Madhav Burra. The film is produced by Neelima Guna and presented by Dil Raju, under the banner of Sri Venkateswara Creations.
The film will be released in five languages, namely, Telugu Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada on February 17 in cinemas. Earlier, the film was supposed to release on November 4 last year, but the makers postponed it to convert it into a 3D format experience.
Interestingly, while the film features big names in the Telugu film industry, it also stars Allu Arha, who is the daughter of star Allu Arjun.
