Shamshera Day 3: Ranbir Kapoor starrer garners poor Box Office response; shows cancelled, movie removed at some theatres

Against all the speculations, the recent release showed no sign of growth on the ticket counters despite it being a weekend

New Delhi: Ranbir Kapoor’s recently arrived period drama had skyrocketed viewers’ anticipation earlier with its fierce posters, and then with the awe-inspiring trailer. Karan Malhotra’s big-budget venture also grabbed the eyes of movie lovers for its steaming hot chemistry between lead stars Ranbir and Vaani Kapoor.

However, against all the speculations, the recent release has garnered a poor response at the box office, showing no sign of growth on the ticket counters despite it being a weekend.

The reports suggest that the hopes of recovery were quashed on Sunday due to the absence of an audience in the theatres, with counters shut down at some places. The movie has reportedly been removed from several cinema halls followed by a lack of numbers showing up for it.

The movie that narrates the saga of a rebel and his battle against a brutal British general for committing gruesome crimes on his tribe during the 19th century, seems to fall flat in terms of business. Made on a hefty budget of Rs 150 crore, was able to collect a mere Rs 11-12 crore on Sunday.

The film that marks the big screen comeback of actor Ranbir Kapoor after a period of four years has been released on a large scale pan India, with the backing of a big production house such as Yash Raj Films.

Though, as per a report by BOI, the film has shown ‘around 20% growth in mass pockets’ in some areas, while the other big projects have noted a jump of 50% on Sunday.

“#Shamshera had a dismal weekend of ₹ 31.25 cr.. Lifetime collection to wrap under ₹ 50 cr nett”, film critic and analyst Sumit Kadel tweeted on Monday.

The 10 percent of growth mounted on the weekends as compared to earlier, Shamshera’s total collection has now reached to ₹ 31 crore.
