New Delhi: This year, Atanu Ghosh has another smash blockbuster film in the works for over-the-top services. Last year, on April 14, 2023—the Bengali New Year’s Day—Shesh Pata was released at the theatres. The movie was made by Friends Communication’s Firdausul Hasan and Probal Halder. Mayurakshi, their 2017 film, has won the National Film Award for Best Bengali Film.
Plot
The tragic life of the film’s protagonist, Balmiki Sengupta, serves as a backdrop against which the tales of three other characters unfold. He had a reputation as an outspoken and controversial Bengali writer. A stunning actress was also his wife. That was, however, twenty years ago. Balmiki Sengupta is now burdened with debt, affliction, loss, and poverty.
He received a Rs 40,000 advance from a publishing business a year ago to write about his wife’s murder; her corpse was discovered nude. However, he doesn’t want to write. Sounak, a debt-collecting agent is sent to him by the production to collect the writing after he continues making excuses. Sounak hires Medha, a calm and intelligent lady, to write in his stead after meeting Balmiki; this will alleviate his hand pain.
Sounak juggles a seven-year romance with Deepa, a failing painter, while Medha and Balmiki become good friends despite Balmiki’s suffering, gloominess, and lengthy rants. Shesh Pata, with its honest depiction and examination of the nuances of loss, despair, and human hardships, could be the ideal bittersweet and contemplative way to wind down after a long day at the office.

Atanu Ghosh, a master of his genre, delves into the complex dynamics of debt and its effects on the collector and the payee, focusing on the emotional toll that it takes on both. On March 8, 2024, Shesh Pata will be streamed on ZEE5.
