‘Such discrimination in 2023’: Vijay Sethupathi, Kamal Haasan speak against discrimination in Rohini Theatre

In a press release, the management claimed that the family was denied entry because they have brought in small children, aged 2-10, to watch a U/A-rated movie.

New Delhi: Netizens and celebrities are equally enraged at the incident that took place in Chennai’s Rohini Theatre with a tribal family.

The incident of prohibiting a family from the Narikuravar community has triggered a massive outrage. Reacting to the situation, Actor-Politician Kaman Haasan has it “reprehensible.”

He wrote, “A tribal family was stopped from entering the theater even though they showed genuine tickets.” He added that the family was only allowed because of pressure created by social media outrage.”

In the video of the incident, a Rohini Theatre staff member is seen dismissing tribal women and their children as they show their tickers. The nomadic family came to see the Pathu Thala movie.

However, they were allowed to enter after a while.

Similarly, Actor Vijay Sethupathi also talked to reporters about Rohini Theatre at a photo exhibition event. Calling it totally unacceptable, he said “all humans are created equally to live on the Earth together.” He added that we must speak up if another human face oppression.

On the other hand, singer Chinmayi Sripaada has trashed the justification given by Rohini Theatre regarding the incident.

In a press release, the management claimed that the family was denied entry because they have brought in small children, aged 2-10, to watch a U/A-rated movie.

Chinmayi replied that it is very common for people to bring even infants and babies to the theaters. “Horrible and disrespectful that these people weren’t allowed.”
She added that such discrimination happens everywhere, not just in Rohini Theatres.
