Taylor Swift to become the highest-earning artist in Spotify history; will earn over $100 million this year

The income generated by Spotify alone is far more than that of Bad Bunny, who established the previous record in 2022 by earning 18.5 billion streams.

New Delhi: Taylor Swift will rake in over $100 million in 2023 after being named Spotify’s most-streamed artist, according to the streaming service. This is following what Spotify said in its year-end Wrapped tally, which was based on her top streamer status for the year.

Billboard has reported that Taylor’s 26.1 billion streams equate to around $97 million in recorded music royalties. It is estimated that Taylor Swift’s total streams through December will amount to 27.2 billion, which would result in recorded music royalties of $101 million through the end of the year from Spotify alone. When publishing revenue is also taken into consideration, the total amount of money that Taylor Swift’s music will have earned on Spotify by the end of the year is approximately $131 million.

Following its customary year-end Spotify made the announcement on November 29 that Taylor has racked up 26.1 billion listens worldwide on the site since January 1. This puts her ahead of artists such as Bad Bunny, who has won three times, as well as The Weeknd, Drake, and Peso Pluma. The launch of her album Midnights in 2022, as well as her re-releases of Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and 1989 (Taylor’s Version) in 2023, were the primary contributors to the generation of 26.1 billion streams during the year.

The income generated by Spotify alone is far more than that of Bad Bunny, who established the previous record in 2022 by earning 18.5 billion streams.

This is in addition to the film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, which has surpassed the worldwide threshold of $250 million, and speculations that her touring has brought in more than $4 billion.

That, of course, doesn’t take into consideration Swift’s success outside of Spotify, the undisputed leader in the streaming industry. According to Billboard’s calculations, her catalogue had 38.3 billion streams by the end of the year, which translates to approximately $160 million in recorded royalties. This figure considers on-demand streams across all platforms, including major players like Apple Music, YouTube Music, and Amazon Music. In other words, her streaming revenue is above $200 million.
