New Delhi: Sudipto Sen’s upcoming movie The Kerela Story is all over the news ever since the makers dropped its trailer. The film has stirred heated debates on freedom of speech and misleading the audience.
The film stars Adah Sharma as the lead actress while Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani, Yogita Bihani, and Sonia Balani would be seen in supporting roles.
Plot of The Kerela Story
In the film, Adah Sharma plays a young Malayali Hindu nurse who is persuaded by terrorist groups into converting to Islam and joining ISIS. The backdrop shows other women who are also shoved down the same path, ending up in an Afghani prison.
Controversy around the Kerala Story
The controversy generates from the fact that the makers touted the film as a true story of 32,000 women in Kerela who have been converted to Islam and have joined terrorist organizations.
Political parties like Congress and CPM also jumped on the bandwagon and accused the makers of promoting Sangh Parivar’s agenda by spreading false information on religious conversions.
Since the makers were unable to substantiate the figure of 32,000 missing women in Kerela, they silently changed it to just 3 women in the new trailer.

Besides the political controversy, the general public of Kerela as well as the government has shown dismay towards the film alleging that it shows the state in bad light.

While the film is releasing in theatres on 5th May, it would also be available to stream to Zee5.
