Thunivu Review: Ajith Kumar’s box office rioter gets second life on OTT, is it watch worthy?

New Delhi: Ajith Kumar starrer Thunivu has made it to the OTT after a successful run at the box office. The movie rolled out at theatres around Pongal in January, and despite a major clash with Vijay’s Varisu, the no-nonsense action thriller collected as much as 160 crores in local theaters.

Now, expecting to add up to its collection, Thunivi is streaming in 5 languages on Netflix; Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannad.

Thunivu Review

While making the movie, H Vinoth must have dedicated himself to the action-thriller genra so strictly that the movie has no space for any romance, melodrama or comedic sequences.

The plot is unique and exciting in itself. Gangster drama with a twist, Thunivu, revolves around an ambitious bank heist which gets obstructed by another robbery operation going on at the same time.

However, the collision of bank heists leaves us confused in the first half of the movie with many unanswered questions, which thankfully begin to unravel in the second half.

The fast paced movie’s climax, though, dampens the excitement built by the second half of the movie with a hurriedly executed ending.

Cast and craft

Ajith Kumar leaves no complaints with his dialogue delivery and expressions as an anti-hero in the thriller flick.

Manju Warrier maintains the mystery in her character till the end. Unlike what the South Indian film industry is notorious for, Manju Warrier’s character is much more than the male actor’s romantic support.

Perfectly draped in Khaki uniform, Manju hits all the right spots with her action sequences.

Talking about the supervillain, John Kokken’s character lacked the brutality of evil and hence couldn’t do much justice in the negative role.

Final Rating 3/5
