Tom Holland opens up about the benefits of sobriety: “I felt healthier and more in control”

In a candid conversation on Jay Shetty’s “On Purpose” podcast, Tom Holland discussed his journey to sobriety.

New Delhi: Tom Holland recently shared a personal revelation about his decision to quit drinking alcohol.

In a candid conversation on Jay Shetty’s “On Purpose” podcast, released on YouTube, Holland discussed his journey to sobriety, highlighting the positive effects it has had on his life. The actor revealed that he has been sober for over a year and a half, emphasizing the impact it has had on his physical and mental well-being.

Holland initially embarked on the path to sobriety as part of the “dry January” trend, where individuals commit to abstaining from alcohol for a month after the festive holiday season. However, he quickly realized that his relationship with alcohol went beyond a temporary break. Throughout January, Holland struggled with the constant temptation to break his promise of not drinking.

“All I could think about was having a drink. That’s all I could think about,” recalled Holland, acknowledging the grip alcohol had on his thoughts. The intensity of his cravings deeply concerned him, prompting a self-reflection on his drinking habits.

Recognizing that he had an alcohol problem, Holland extended his commitment to sobriety for an additional month, vowing to stay alcohol-free through February. Despite the challenges he faced during this time, he pushed himself further, deciding to abstain from alcohol for six months until his birthday on June 1.

During these six months, Holland experienced a profound transformation. He discovered a range of positive effects that sobriety brought into his life. “I could sleep better. I could handle problems better…I had so much better mental clarity. I felt healthier, I felt fitter,” he shared. These changes motivated him to question his attachment to alcohol and why he had become so fixated on its consumption.

“Why am I so enslaved by this drink? Why am I so obsessed by the idea of having this drink?” Holland reflected. This introspection prompted him to fully embrace a sober lifestyle and the newfound sense of control and well-being that came with it.

Currently dating Hollywood actress Zendaya, Holland is continuing to focus on his career. He recently finished shooting for “The Crowded Room.” As he prioritizes his physical and mental health, the actor serves as an inspiration for others who may be struggling with similar challenges.
