Upcoming movies and series to watch in April; From Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan to Shaakuntalam, check the list here

With Vikramaditya Motwane’s Jubilee and Russo Brothers’ Citadel, featuring our own ‘desi girl,’ Priyanka Chopra, the OTT market has a lot to offer. Here is a list of movies and series that will be released in April for you to watch.

New Delhi: The month of April is going to be bustling one for movie buffs, with a range of programmes and movies set to be released. Salman Khan will return to action in Kisi Ka Bhai Kis Ki Jaan, while Aditya Roy Kapur will play a double role for the very first time in the Thadam remake Gumraah. Down south, we got Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s Shaakuntalam and Ponniyin Selvan, the second installment of Mani Ratnam’s magnum masterpiece.

1. Jubilee (Prime Video)


Vikramaditya Motwane, famous for his spectacular storylines and work in films such as Udaan and Lootera, is preparing to direct his first OTT movie, Jubilee. Aditi Rao Hydari, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Aparshakti Khurana, Wamiqa Gabbi, Sidhant Gupta, Nandish Sandhu, and Ram Kapoor star in the series, which has an evergreen music composed by Amit Trivedi. It will be available on Amazon Video on April 7.

2. Gumraah (Theatres)


Aditya Roy Kapur will play a double part in the thriller film Gumraah for the first time in his career. Mrunal Thakur co-stars alongside Ronit Roy as a tough cop opposing Aditya. Incidentally, Gumraah is a remake of the Tamil film Thadam, which was released in 2019. It will be released in theatres on April 7.

3. Shaakuntalam (Theatres)


Samantha Ruth Prabhu has established herself as a pan-Indian sensation following The Family Man 2. The actress will now appear alongside Dev Mohan in the legendary epic Shaakuntalam. Shaakuntalam’s story is centered on Kalidasa’s internationally recognised Sanskrit play Abhijnana Shakuntalam. Samantha plays the title role, and Dev Mohan plays Mahabharata’s King Dushyant. It also features major performances by Allu Arha, Sachin Khedekar, Kabir Bedi, Dr M Mohan Babu, Prakash Raj, Madhubala, Gautami, Aditi Balan, Ananya Nagalla, and Jisshu Sengupta. It will be released in theatres on April 14th, directed by Gunasekhar.

4. Tooth Pari: When Love Bites (Netflix)


Shantanu Maheshwari will be seen in Tooth Pari: When Love Bites alongside Tanya Maniktala on Netflix, following an excellent acting debut in Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi. It will be released on April 20th, directed by Pratim Dasgupta.

5. Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan (Theatres)


Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, Salman Khan’s highly anticipated film, will be released in theatres on April 21. Shehnaaz Gill and Shweta Tiwari’s daughter, Palak Tiwari, will make their Bollywood debuts in Farhad Samji’s film. Pooja Hegde, Venkatesh, Jagapathi Babu, Jassie Gill, and Raghav Juyal also make an appearance.

6. Indian Matchmaking Season 3 (Netflix)


This season, Mumbai’s best mediator will help single millennials all around the world find their right partner. Sima Taparia will manage higher demands from existing and new clients in the upcoming season of Indian Matchmaking, from London to New Delhi, Miami to New York. The third season will be available on Netflix on April 21.

7. Ponniyin Selvan 2 (Theatres)


Ponniyin Selvan 2 will be released in theatres on April 28 of this year. The sequel, identical to the initial, will be aired in five languages: Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi. The film is directed by Mani Ratnam and stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha Krishnan, Chiyaan Vikram, Karthi, and Jayam Ravi in important parts. It is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s book with the same title.

8. Citadel (Prime Video)


A former agent chases down his colleague Mason Kane (Richard Madden), who seeks his assistance in avoiding a powerful syndicate Manticore from setting up a fresh world order eight years after global intelligence agency Citadel crumbled and its agents’ memories were wiped clean. Mason seeks out his former colleague, Nadia (Priyanka Chopra), and the two spies begin on a mission to stop Manticore, all while dealing with a relationship founded on secrets, deception, and a dangerous-yet-undying love. Citadel debuts on April 28th, with new episodes broadcast every Friday until May 26th.
